JAMES CITY COUNTY — The James City County (JCC) government has announced that it has opened enrollment for its Agricultural & Forestal District (AFD).

According to a release from JCC, an AFD is considered a place where one or more contiguous parcels of land are used for agricultural or forestal purposes. The release notes, “Benefits of enrolling include assurance that most AFD land qualifies for use-value taxation, protection of land against developmental pressure, and protection against nuisance ordinances.”

The AFDs considered for property additions are: Armistead, Barnes Swamp, Carter’s Grove, Christenson’s Corner, Cranston’s Pond, Croaker, Gordon Creek, Gospel Spreading Church Farm, Hill Pleasant Farm, Mill Creek, and Yarmouth Island. A map of the county’s existing AFDs can be found by clicking here.

Applications are now being accepted through June 15, 2022 to be added ahead of the districts’ renewal this October. Existing enrollees will be notified of the renewal and can opt to modify, renew, or terminate membership without penalty.
