YORKTOWN — The Peninsula Health District (PHD) is looking for a small, grey, shorthaired dog that bit a person on Coventry Trail by the wooded area behind Wrought Iron Bend on around 7:30 on Monday, March 7.
According to the PHD press release, the dog in question was being walked by a young man along with four other small dogs at the time of the incident. He and the dogs were last seen headed away between Hamlet Court and Monument Court.
The dog that bit the victim will not be taken away from its owner. It will only be placed on an in-home confinement for 10 days.
Anyone who has seen an animal that fits the description is encouraged to contact the Peninsula Health District at (757) 594-7340. If the call is being made after business hours, please call the York County Animal Control at (757) 890-3601.
The PHD also reminds residents to report all exposures, enjoy wildlife at a distance and make sure all family pets are vacinated and protected against the rabies virus.
Virginia law requires that all dogs and cats be vaccinated between three and four months of age and there after to maintain protection against rabies.
