York County Planning Commission to Meet on March 9

YORK COUNTY — The York County Planning Commission has released the agenda for its monthly meeting which, will start at 7 p.m. on March 9 at York Hall, 301 Main St.

Issues up for public hearing include a request for a special exception to a York County zoning ordinance that would allow Sims Metal to expand its nonconforming metal recycling plant by half. The Simms plant is located at 2114-A George Washington Memorial Hwy. (U.S. Route 17).

According to the County’s memorandum, the company has operated on that property since the early 2000s. Sims Metal processes various discarded items such as, cars, air conditioners and water heaters to name a few. Once they are processed, they are transported to the company’s recycling facility in Chesapeake.

The other issue up for public hearing is the a request for special permit by the So Lux Event Center, LLC to establish a commercial reception hall in the Yorkshire Downs Shopping Center, 3301 Hampton Hwy.

The memo states that the applicant plans to occupy just under 2,000 of the 23,900 square foot shopping center to establish an upscale venue for smaller catered events, not to exceed 70 people.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at York Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
