WILLIAMSBURG — The William & Mary (W&M) Athletics Department announced Tuesday (Feb. 8) the addition of a four-game football series with Virginia Military Institute (VMI) that will feature contests in 2024, 2027, 2030 and 2031.

“Renewing a rivalry with an in-state program is a win-win for both universities,” said William & Mary Director of Athletics, Brian D. Mann. “It puts a familiar and respected opponent back on our schedule, as this series has a history that stretches back more than 100 years. Combine this tradition with relative proximity of the schools and it will generate interest in both fan bases and make for a great game-day atmosphere.”

The series had been a fixture for both programs in the recent past, as the two schools had met every year from 1944 through 2008 – a stretch of 65 consecutive seasons. At time it was interrupted, it was tied for the ninth-longest uninterrupted FCS series.

In this latest match-up, the two programs will include a pair of home games at Zable Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024 and Aug. 31, 2030, while the Tribe will travel to Lexington on Sept. 4, 2027 and Aug. 30, 2031.

In a series that dates back to 1905, W&M owns a 53-33-2 all-time record versus the Keydets and has won the last 25 meetings. The most recent matchup came in 2011 when the Tribe earned a 24-7 victory at Foster Stadium.
