YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) has released the identity of the victim in a fatal crash that occurred late last month in York County.

The victim was 21-year-old Trinity Yvonne-Eileen Richardson of the 100 block of Luca Creek Rd. in Newport News.

At approximately 6:12 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, VSP were called to the scene of a crash that occurred on Ballard Street between Cook and Historic Tour roads.

The preliminary investigation revealed that that a Nissan Sentra, which was traveling south along Ballard Street, ran off the road before striking a tree. At that point, the vehicle was engulfed in fire.

Richardson, the only occupant of the vehicle, was found inside. Due to the severity of the fire, VSP was unable to ascertain a positive identification at the time of the crash. Richardson’s remains were transferred to the medical examiner’s office where she was identified. At that point, next of kin was notified.

VSP did not release any further details regarding this case, including the cause of the crash.
