Hampton University to Join Colonial Athletic Association in July

HAMPTON ROADS — The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced on Jan. 25 that Hampton University has accepted a membership invitation to join the conference on July 1, 2022.

Hampton University was a part of a small group of universities that have accepted invitations to compete in the conference. The other two schools are Monmouth University and Stony Brook University.

The three new additions to the CAA brings the conference to 12 members in 2022-23:

  • College of Charleston (Charleston, S.C.)
  • University of Delaware (Neward, Del.)
  • Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pa.)
  • Elon University (Elon, N.C.)
  • Hofstra University (Hempstead, N.Y.)
  • University of North Carolina Wilmington (Wilmington, N.C)
  • Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.)
  • Townson University (Townsonm Md.)
  • William & Mary (Williamsburg, Va.)
  • Hampton University (Hampton, Va.)
  • Monmouth University (West Long Branch, N.J.)
  • Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, N.Y.)

These additions to the CAA mean that both Hampton University and Monmouth University will be joining the College of William & Mary (W&M) in CAA Football. The additions bring the CAA Football’s membership to 13. The CAA Football list of members for 2022-2023 are:

  • University at Albany (Albany, N.Y.)
  • University of Delaware (Newark, Del.)
  • Elon University (Elon, N.C.)
  • University of Maine (Orono, Maine)
  • University of New Hampshire (Durham, N.H.)
  • University of Rhode Island (Kingston, R.I.)
  • University of Richmond (Richmond, Va.)
  • Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, N.Y.)
  • Townson University (Townson, Md.)
  • Villanova University (Villanova, Pa.)
  • William & Mary (Williamsburg, Va.)
  • Hampton University (Hampton, Va.)
  • Monmouth University (West Long Branch, N.J.)

“We are incredibly excited to welcome all three new partners to the CAA,” said William & Mary Director of Athletics Brian D. Mann in a press release. “As a group, they strengthen our league membership – and bring a shared commitment to athletic and academic excellence. We are also grateful to W&M President Katherine A. Rowe who played a significant role throughout the process and who continues to be terrific partner to Athletics.”
