NATIONWIDE — Krispy Kreme Doughnuts announced that from Jan. 24 to Jan. 31 they will be giving away a free Original Glazed dozen doughnuts to anyone who shows proof of donating blood or platelets during the remainder of January.

The doughnut company is partnering up with American Red Cross to help increase awareness of the worst blood shortage in over a decade.

To be eligible for Original Glazed dozen, individuals must show their proof of donation and date via a donor band or sticker, or from the donor app. Additionally, the blood donation must be completed between Jan. 24 through Jan.31.

The offer can be redeemed while inside a Krispy Kreme shop or while in the drive-thru at participating locations.

According to the American Red Cross, the organization helps to supply 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply but has had to limit its blood product distributions as a result of this nationwide shortage.

American Red Cross blood drive locations can be found with the organization’s Find a Drive webpage.

Both the Newport News location, 12648 Jefferson Avenue, and the Hampton location, 3400 West Mercury Blvd, are participating in this promotion. For store hours, please visit the Krispy Kreme website by clicking here.
