NEWPORT NEWS — The Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts announced that a Community Testing Center (CTC) will open at the Sherwood Shopping Center, 13785 Warwick Blvd. in Newport News, on Monday, Jan. 10.

Free Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19 will be available in a heated tent on the same property as the Community Vaccination Center. The CTC will serve the Greater Peninsula area, including the Historic Triangle.

“The addition of the Community Testing Center provides another avenue for COVID-19 testing which is currently in high demand,” Dr. Natasha Dwamena, the Health Districts’ director, said.

The CTC will operate by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. There will also be weekend testing available Saturday through Monday from Jan. 29-31.

Appointments can now be made on the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) site. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

CTC test results will be sent automatically via text or email to individuals being tested. The local health district cannot provide the results.

PCR test results are typically available within a few days after testing.
