WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Police Department (WPD) has arrested a man in connection with the armed robbery of the Richmond Road 7-Eleven.
On Dec. 15, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in the 1500 block of Richmond Road.
According to WPD, the suspect walked behind the counter, pointed a black pistol at both clerks and
demanded money out of the register.
He then struck one of the clerks in the head with his handgun. The suspect stole cash from the register before fleeing the scene.
With assistance from the James City County Police Department (JCCPD), the WPD Criminal Investigations Bureau located the clothing and wig used in the armed robbery.
The suspect was quickly identified as 27-year-old Irshad Mahmood of James City County. Warrants were obtained against Mahmood for robbery, use or display of firearm in committing felony and prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places.
On Dec. 17, the Williamsburg Police Criminal Investigations Bureau arrested Mahmood in North Carolina with the assistance of Edgecombe County Sherrif’s Office. He was then transported to the Edgecombe County Detention Center in North Carolina.
