UPDATE (Dec. 17, 2021, 9:55 a.m.): James City County Police reports that Richmond Road has now reopened.

JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County Police Department (JCCPD) is encouraging motorists to avoid Richmond Road at Norge Elementary School following a single-vehicle crash with downed power lines.

On Friday, Dec. 17 at approximately 5 a.m., a vehicle struck a telephone pole, taking down the power lines, according to JCCPD spokesperson Stephanie Williams.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The road was blocked in both directions earlier this morning.

As of 8:48 a.m., Richmond Road is partially open, with officers alternating traffic to allow motorists to get through in both directions. JCCPD encouraged drivers to continue to avoid the area if possible.
