JAMES CITY COUNTY — With more students learning at home, the James City County Library is now offering a dedicated space for young people and their families or tutors to learn at the library.

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., The Kitzinger Community Room at the James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Rd, will be available for families involved in homeschooling, distance-learning, and any other educational plans that could require a quiet place with wireless internet for work, study and research.

“Opening the learning space at the library and providing enrichment programming helps fulfill a key point of our vision of library services – inspiring creativity and learning, and creating connections between people,” Ben Strohm, Youth Services director at Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL), said. “We saw there was a need in our community for learning space, and are pleased to offer both space and programming at the James City County Library to meet that need.”

Learning @ The Library will also offer enrichment programs at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday each month. in the Kitzinger Community Room. On Nov. 3, the program will be an Introduction to Sphero Edu, a platform that uses app-enabled robots to teach programming and computer science.

Learning @ The Library is a response to a Learning Space survey put out by WRL in September that showed an interest from parents in the Library providing a dedicated space for homeschool families and students involved in virtual learning, as well as enrichment activities for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities.

Registration is required for enrichment programs. Families can register by calling (757) 741-3300 (option 4) or stopping by the Youth Services Desk.
