York County announced the establishment of a COVID-19 Helpline on Feb. 1 to assist individuals in registering for the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Emergency Communications staff understand that hearing a kind and compassionate voice can provide a level of comfort during times of uncertainty,” Terry Hall, director of York County Emergency Communications, said.

Hall noted the county has multiple phone lines available to help with registering for the vaccine, but if a call goes to voicemail, callers can leave a message and the office will call them back as soon as possible.

Groups currently being registered include:

  • Residents ages 65 years and older
  • Residents ages 16- to 64-years-old with underlying health conditions
  • Frontline essential workers
  • Healthcare providers

Residents who do not have internet access or who are having trouble getting registered should call 757-890-5890 on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hotline is not able to schedule vaccination appointments.

The county stresses this new helpline is also not a replacement for the Virginia Department of Health’s call center for individuals with medical questions about COVID-19 vaccines.

Anyone with general questions should visit the Peninsula Health District’s website here or call the hotline at 757-594-7496 on Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

York County’s COVID-19 Connection webpage is also regularly updated with the latest information and frequently asked questions about vaccines and links to various COVID resources.
