If you received a call from someone asking for money on behalf of the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, it’s a scam.

And the department is raising the alarm and warning the community about it.

Here’s one thing to remember — to always remember — the department does not solicit donations through phone calls.

The department took to their Facebook page and posted the warning, saying it had been reported that someone or an unknown organization making phone calls to residents soliciting donations for the fire department.

York County Fire and Life Safety Chief Steve Kopczynski said so far the county was only aware of one report to their office.

“We only received one call to our office, but we do not know how many citizens got called. We would rather be proactive,” the chief said.

Authorities are asking anyone with questions to contact the fore department’s administrative offices Monday through Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 757-890-3600.
