Joint Base Langley-Eustis said Thursday the spouse of a soldier assigned to Fort Eustis has died from complications related to the coronavirus (COVID 19).

“It is my deepest regret to inform you that a JBLE Army family member died from presumptive complications related to COVID-19 at a hospital in Newport News,” said Col. Clint Ross, installation commander of JBLE. “The spouse of the deceased, a soldier assigned to Fort Eustis, also previously tested positive for COVID-19, and remains in isolation while continuing to receive medical care.”

Including this, 14 people have died in Virginia — 7 in the Peninsula Health District, 2 in Henrico County Health District, 1 in Pittsylvania-Danville Health District, 1 in Fairfax Health District and 1 in the Virginia Beach Health District. It’s unclear where the other death happened.

The Peninsula Health District covers Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County and the Hampton Health District covers Hampton.

As of Thursday, James City County remains to have one of the highest positive cases of coronavirus in the state per capita at 49. Virginia now has 460 positive cases.

“Our hearts are heavy, I extend my deepest condolences to the friends and family of our lost teammate,” Ross wrote in a Facebook post. “My thoughts also remain with those who continue to fight this invisible enemy. I ask you to support each other during this difficult time, while we continue to work together to mitigate the impacts across the installation.”
