One last round up of things you need to know for ‘Something in the Water’

VIRGINIA BEACH — The “Something in the Water” festival was cancelled Friday because of severe weather but the rest of the weekend will go on as planned, organizers said.

Here’s a quick rundown of things you should keep in mind while attending the festival.

Parking and Drop-offs

Given the large number of people slated to be within the festival footprint at the Oceanfront, there are some street closures, parking notices and drop-off notices you should know about.

There will be a dedicated ride share drop off/pick up area at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Officials said the festival sold out of shuttle parking tickets at the amphitheater.

Road Closures

The following roads will be closed or have restricted access:

  • 19th Street — No access from Birdneck Road. Vehicle traffic will be restricted to one lane eastbound only from Cypress to Arctic; the rest for pedestrians. Police will maintain access for 19th Street residents.
  • Atlantic Avenue closed from 5th Street south (Thursday-Sunday)
  • Atlantic Avenue from 5th to 10th — credentials/hotels reservations/employees only
  • Atlantic Avenue from 10th Street northward — Police may restrict traffic at times based on conditions.
  • Parks Avenue – Access provided from 21st Street to Zoë’s.
  • Winston Salem Avenue closed from Pacific westbound. Pacific Avenue northbound left turn lane closed at Winston Salem Avenue.
  • To access Winston Salem corridor and Shadowlawn, use 9th Street/Norfolk Avenue. Follow signs
  • General Booth Blvd, between Croatan Road – 5th Street (Northbound #2 lane only will be dedicated for Event Shuttle/priority vehicle/emergency vehicle use) and closed to passenger vehicles Friday April 26, 10 a.m. – Monday, April 29, 4 a.m. (restriction/VBPD enforcement lifted between 4 a.m. – 9 a.m. daily)
  • Streets throughout the oceanfront area may be restricted during peak times and when conditions dictate
  • When diversions become necessary due to congestion, the routes away from the oceanfront will be westbound at 9th, 17th and 22nd.

Sentara Mobile ER

In addition to city EMS and police officers, Sentara’s Mobile ER site will operate an eight-bed mobile ER/tent hospital at 8th street and Oceanfront during the festival.

The hospital’s medical evacuation bus will also be parked on-site should a number of patients need transfer to the hospital on First Colonial Road, Sentara officials said.

The Sentara Mobile ER will operate as follows:

  • Friday 2 p.m. to Saturday 2 p.m.
  • Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight
  • Sunday noon to 10 p.m.

Sentara hospitals and free-standing ERs in Virginia Beach and Norfolk are prepared for any patients who need emergency care during the festival weekend. These include:

  • Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital (Level III Trauma Center) at 1060 First Colonial Road, Virginia Beach.
  • Sentara Princess Anne Hospital at 2025 Glenn Mitchell Drive, Virginia Beach. near the Amphitheater.
  • Sentara Independence (Free-standing 24-hour ER) at 800 Independence Blvd, Virginia Beach.
  • Sentara Leigh Hospital at 830 Kempsville Road, Norfolk. at Sentara Norfolk
  • General Hospital (Level I Trauma Center) at 600 Gresham Drive, Norfolk.
