Police trooper hospitalized in Virginia Beach after crash on Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

VIRGINIA BEACH — An on-duty state trooper is in a Virginia Beach hospital after being involved in a crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Thursday morning.

The Virginia State Police trooper told officials that around 7:36 a.m. they were driving south on Route 13. As the trooper exited the second bridge-tunnel, a construction vehicle pulled into the trooper’s travel lane, causing the crash, according to the VSP.

The trooper hit the construction vehicle from behind. The trooper was unable to move out of the travel lane without hitting oncoming traffic, VSP officials said.

The Virginia State Police car was severely damaged and the trooper suffered minor injuries. The trooper is being treated at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Police are investigating the crash.
