POQUOSON — Several residents in Poquoson have reported getting fraudulent calls from people claiming to represent the federal government, according to a post on the Poquoson Police Department Facebook page.

The scammers are making the calls from local numbers and claim to work in Immigrations and Customs. They tell the resident that fraudulent accounts have been set up in the resident’s name. The scammer then tries to get the resident to set up an appointment and goes so far as to send confirmation text messages.

The Poquoson Police want to remind people to never give out personal information over the phone. The department can be reached by telephone at (757) 898-3501.
