Colonial Williamsburg’s Ales Through the Ages Switched to an All Virtual Event

WILLIAMSBURG — Ales Through The Ages, Colonial Williamsburg’s (CW) conference that focuses on the history of ales throughout the 18th century, has postponed its in-person events until November 2022.

What was originally conceptualized as hybrid in-person/virtual event set for the Nov. 12-14, 2021, will now be held completely online.

The augmented conference will focus on how English ale brewing has changed over the centuries. The schedule offers fascinating lectures and historical exhibitions that will be of interest to any beer lover or history enthusiast.

Beer historians such as Travis Rupp from the University of Colorado at Boulder will discuss how beer was made in England during the period in which the Roman Empire conquered the British Isles.

Food and drink historian Marc Meltonville will give a lecture on beer during the Tudor era.

Tara Nurin, a beer writer, author Lee Graves and CW’s Master of Historic Foodways Frank Clark will discuss the “Who, What & How of 18th Century Virginia Brewing”.

Kyle Spears and Dan Lauro of Carillon Brewing Company will talk about operating a historic brewery in modernday Ohio.

All the presenters will be available for live question and answer sessions during the weekend and all of the lectures will be accessible to registrants through Nov. 30.

The $75 registration fee also includes a seven-day ticket voucher to visit CW’s Historic Area and Art Museums, which can be redeemed through May 30, 2022.
