WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center is now accepting participants who qualify using Veteran’s Administration (VA) benefits.

Leading into this acceptance, Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center applied to the VA. From there, the VA put the provider through an extensive vetting processing before accepting it into its network.

According to Lisa A. Bates, chief marketing officer for Williamsburg Landing, the VA looked at the organization itself, its leadership, the quality and impact of the program, staff to participant ratios, training practices, and more. Additionally, the VA provided specialized training in order to tailor Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center’s programming to meet the unique needs of veterans.

After approval this past August, the program’s first two participants began in September.

“We are so honored to provide services to our Veterans,” said Debbie Whybra, director of Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center. “Everyday, we are reminded of the courage and bravery that our Veterans did for us and because of them we remain free. What a privilege it is to now serve them!”

Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center was opened in 2018, winning the Distinguished Adult Day Center Award from the National Adult Day Services Association in 2019. However, it was forced to shut down for a total of nine months during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, the day center program is honoring National Adult Day Services Week by holding a celebration. With a theme of, “Forging a New Path Forward: Understanding Adult Day Services and the Future,” there are numerous activities planned.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Joe Duggan will provide live music and the center will have a birthday party for Tom Rector, Pearl Grosse, Roberta Lamont and Eric Edradan.

Thursday, Sept. 23 will be marked with balloon twisting training at 3 p.m.

The week will be capped off this Friday, Sept. 24 with a grand finale featuring a music extravaganza with Charlie Knight.

At this time, due to the continuing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program is remaining vigilant and safe. Therefore, Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center is avoiding large crowds. However, individuals are invited to the program’s Family Support Group.

Williamsburg Landing’s Adult Day Center continues to enhance its programming and care for individual caregivers.
