York Co. Board of Supervisors Releases Agenda for Upcoming Meeting

YORKTOWN — The York County Board of Supervisors has released the agenda for its May 18 meeting.

Scheduled to start at 6 p.m., the meeting will kick off with an invocation led by the York County Youth Commission. Following this, the Board will present the 2021 Outstanding Youth Awards in the categories of Courage, Compassion, Community Service, and Overall Achievement.

There will be several topics discussed during the meeting:

  1. Consideration for the adoption of proposed Ordinance 21-8. This would be a consideration Rhetson Companies, Inc. to rezone 2.6 acres on Hampton Highway from residential to general business.
  2. Consideration for the adoption of proposed Resolution of R21-61, which would authorize a rented tourist cottage on private property along Lafayette Road.
  3. Consideration for the adoption of proposed Resolution R21-68, which would consist of a 6-year secondary road improvement program. This would also create a priority list of needed improvements and how to allocate funding.
  4. Consideration for the adoption of proposed Ordinance No. 21-10 to establish the salaries of members of the Board of Supervisors. If adopted, this would take effect July 1, 2021.
  5. Consideration for the adoption of Proposed Ordinance No. 21-13, which would amend the York County Purchasing Ordinance in order to incorporate provisions mandated by Code of Virginia Section 2.2-4343(A)(12).
  6. Consideration for the adoption of proposed Resolution R21-69, which would authorize a tax refund to C.O.A. Virginia, Inc.; a minority-owned business that provides janitorial solutions for commercial, hospitality, industrial and medical.

Additionally, the Board will consider several items for consent, including: commendations for members of the 2020-2021 Youth Commission, Captain Fred A. Simpson, Jr. of the Department of Fire and Life Safety on the occasion of his retirement, and for Shirley Hixen, a senior legal assistant for the Office of the County Attorney, upon her retirement.

Regular meetings and work sessions of the Board of Supervisors are held at York Hall, 301 Main Street, as well as live on-air. Those wishing to watch the meeting from home can either tune into WYCG-TV Cox Cable Channel 46, Verizon Channel 38, or stream online at www.yorkcounty.gov/tv.

The meeting will take place in person with a capacity limit for 50 persons (including Board and staff members). Seats will be marked for social distancing. Face masks will still be required while inside York Hall. For any audience overflow, the East Room will be open for additional seating. For residents wishing to speak, there will be spaces marked on the floor six feet apart and the podium will have a Plexiglass screen. Hand sanitizer will also be available.
