Here’s where you can donate food for the holiday season

As the holiday season comes around, it’s hard not to think about the people who might not have festive meals to enjoy.

For those looking to help out, there are a number of locations throughout Hampton Roads that accept food and volunteers.

The following locations are collection areas for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Williamsburg

  • Bank of America, 1801 Richmond Road and 4620 Monticello Ave.
  • Disabled Veterans Store, 440 Merrimac Trail.
  • Old Point National Bank, 4139 Ironbound Road.
  • Safelite, 2215 Richmond Road.

Yorktown

  • Bank of America, 4528 George Washington Memorial Highway.
  • Douglas Aquatics, 102 Industry Drive.

Hampton

Check your local public school district to see if they are hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Some public schools on the Peninsula, like Newport News Public Schools, are having food drives where students and their families can donate food.

Williamsburg, Hampton and James City County public schools did not immediately respond for comment so it is unclear if the schools are collecting canned goods. York County spokeswoman Katherine Goff told WYDaily information regarding food drive donations either by the school district or club organizations are available through the school’s website.
