Fans of Queen Latifah should gear-up because she’s coming to Richmond.
American Evolution’s Women’s Achieve Summit on Monday and Tuesday will feature the actress and performer as the host.
“We are very excited to welcome 1,400 women and men to Richmond for the American Evolution Women’s Achieve Summit hosted by Queen Latifah,” said Yuri Milligan, associate director, marketing and communications, 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution. “We have an exciting and informational day planned for the attendees.”
Latifah has earned six Grammy nominations and has been a staple of film and television for nearly three decades.
U.S. Sen Mark. R Warner will co-host the event.
The Women’s Achieve Summit is a signature event of Virginia’s 2019 Commemoration. During the summit, programs will honor four centuries of women’s achievements. The program will also represent the diversity of the 1619 commemorative cultures: African, English and Native American.
But the Women’s Achieve Summit is more than just commemorating the events of 1619, it is set to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the recruitment of English women in large numbers to the Virginia Colony.
Women were recruited to the colony in November 1619 after Virginia Company of London officials realized the presence of women would help to develop a stable and productive colony.
A discussion panel will be featured with interviews and keynotes from female business leaders, politicians, activists and major public figures.
Topics discussed will be:
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Women in Education
- Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Women Trailblazers
- Stepping into Public Life and Beyond: A Conversation with Virginia First Ladies Interviews
Additionally, the summit will feature the first-ever women’s achieve summit story slam, according to the website. Guests can submit their stories inspired by the quotation, “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” The stories should feature a history-making, rule-breaking moment in your life.
To enter the slam, call submissions at 888-922-7424 and give a one-minute pitch.
Top story-tellers will be selected to submit a video of themselves telling their full stories. Finally, four finalists will be invited to tell their story at the summit.
The summit will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. There is a $25 registration fee for guests and there will have a live stream available on the American Evolution website. For more information, visit American Evolution online.
