Raising money for children’s charities: Fun, food, and funds

VIRGINIA BEACH — Raising money for children’s charities is always an admirable undertaking, but who says it can’t also be a delicious one?

Saturday, for the 47th time, the local nonprofit YSC will host its annual Spring Oyster and Pig Roast and upwards of 3,500 people are expected to attend, making it one of the largest fundraisers in Hampton Roads.

The event will take place at Camp Pendleton from 1-6 p.m., rain or shine, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to children’s charities in the area.

On the menu are pork barbeque, chicken, oysters, chowder, and chili, as well as beer and wine.

There will also be live music, with Little Country headlining the day and bringing their blend of high energy country-rock to Virginia Beach. Norfolk-based band Family Tree will also perform.

Established in 1971, YSC is a 501(c)3 charity that has donated some $3 million over the years. All of its members are all volunteers and recently the agency has started a Junior YSC group.
