NORFOLK — The Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL announced Tuesday that the team is no longer affiliated with either the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League or the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

The announcement comes nearly two weeks after the Admirals fired team president Michael Santos.

“The affiliation change announced today does not affect the normal daily operations of the team or the Admirals’ organization as a whole, but is a sign of the commitment this organization has to do whatever it takes to ensure the team’s success here in Hampton Roads,” said Chief Revenue Officer Trent Ferguson.

Mango Media Group, owners of the Admirals, said in an emailed statement that the announcement was in the best interest of the organization.

“We will continue to focus on the Admirals bright future in Norfolk and as always appreciate the support of our fans and community.”

According to a Virginian-Pilot source, the relationship between the Admirals and Predators ended after the firing of Santos.
