VIRGINIA BEACH — Local couple Rachel and Jeremiah Fjeld have always known they were meant to serve the less fortunate.
This Saturday, the Fjelds’ mobile homeless ministry, 99 for the 1, will provide a chef-prepared, five-course meal at The Gathering at Scott Memorial in Virginia Beach.
Chef Brian Wegner of Virginia Beach’s Esoteric and Outer Banks-based Chef Justin Lachine will be joined by local musicians, Sara White and Bryan Mahon, local designers, and more than 35 volunteers to provide the homeless community with an experience some have never had before.
“We love our homeless community so much,” said Rachel. “We want to reverse the roles and do something special for them.”
More than 75 homeless individuals will be picked-up at The Lighthouse Center and brought to enjoy their meal in one of the Fjeld’s three vans painted by local artist OnieTonie.
99 for the 1 is always in need of donations of any kind, both physical and monetary, to continue their work providing the homeless community with essentials, showers, and a helping hand.
“We know the homeless community in Virginia Beach well,” said Rachel. “We want to show them that they have value and that we love them.”
