James City County Police are seeking information after rumors emerged about a man allegedly trying to pick up children near the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex.

Hornets President Kim Gordy sent an email to parents last week after hearing information from a leader of the Jaguar’s league, saying a man was trying to pick up children near the WISC bathrooms, she said.

“If there really was a person out there, I just wanted parents to be aware,” Gordy said.

James City County Police have only received one report of a recent incident near WISC, which was on Sept. 18, police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams. The information does not match information circulating amongst league parents, she added.

Williams said the report states a man in a tan or gold Honda SUV stopped and offered a ride to two girls ages 10 and 14 as they were walking near WISC.

It was raining at the time he offered the ride, Williams said. The girls declined.

Police are asking anyone with more information on other similar incidents to come forward.

“Police have stepped up patrols in the area due to concerns, but we are encouraging people to report these incidents if they are happening,” she said.

Those with information should call James City County Police at 757-253-1800.
