The organizers behind the “New Homes + Art Tour” taking place Sunday in Ford’s Colony are showcasing properties for sale and works of fine art together in hopes of attracting a new kind of buyer to both markets.
“It’s a natural fit,” says Lee Matney, owner of the Linda Matney Fine Art Gallery. “Artists are always searching for new venues, and this gives us the opportunity to display our work in a natural setting, so that patrons can easily envision how the pieces will look inside their own homes.”
The Linda Matney Fine Art Gallery is partnering with Liz Moore & Associates to put on the event in six new custom homes throughout Ford’s Colony.
With complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres on hand, attendees will have the opportunity to chat with the artists whose works are on display and peruse the homes at their leisure.
Homes on the tour range from $590,000 to $875,000. Houses from well-known architecture firms such as Stephen Alexander Homes, Westmoreland, Hallmark Builders and Marquee Homes will be among those on display.
Additionally, the tour will feature a 2014 Southern Living Showcase home by Wayne Harbin Builder, the Southern Living Custom Builder of the Year for 2015.
A variety of art ranging from landscapes to furniture to photographs will be spread throughout the houses. While much of the art being featured is from local artists who will be on hand at the event to discuss their processes and inspirations, other pieces hail from far corners of the globe.
Anil Thambai, an artist currently living and working in India, will have a piece on display, as will Art Rosenbaum, a renowned muralist with pieces recently selected by the Smithsonian for its permanent collection.
“The Art Tour offers us the chance to welcome a new prospective audience to see our new home inventory in Ford’s Colony, and at the same time, benefit the local arts community,” said Liz Moore, owner and President of Liz Moore & Associates. “We are hopeful that it will grow into an even bigger event next year, and become a generous fundraiser for an arts related cause.”
The tour will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and admission is free. A raffle will be held at the conclusion of the event to benefit the Williamsburg Symphonia.
