After a successful first round of informational sessions aimed at helping unemployed or underemployed people launch a new business, the College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business has been awarded a contract for a second round.
Grants from the U.S. Department of Labor have made it possible for Opportunity Inc.’s Launch Hampton Roads program to partner with the Alan B. Miller Entrepreneurship Center in W&M’s business school to help educate unemployed, underemployed and dislocated workers in launching a new business.
Launch Hampton Roads, which helps the federal department understand which services best aid new businesses, began in 2012. The college was first included in the program in March, and a successful partnership has led to an additional contract for the college.
The next session of Launch Hampton Roads will include business courses offered Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, and interested participants are invited to attend one of three information sessions beginning Monday.
The first informational session will be hosted 10 a.m.-noon Monday at the Peninsula Worklink One Stop Career Center in Hampton. The following sessions will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Virginia Employment Commission on John Tyler Highway and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at the James City County Recreation Center on Longhill Road.
During the information sessions, attendees will learn details about the program as well as what is required for eligibility. Those interested in participating in the courses will need to apply and be accepted to the program.
