Williamsburg Notebook: Dominion Employees Spruce Up Waller Mill Park

The city of Williamsburg’s Waller Mill Park recently had a mini-makeover when Dominion Virginia Power employees built a fence and added new items. The Neighborhood Council will meet on Dec. 8.

Dominion Employees Build Park Fence

Waller Mill Park has a new fence, thanks to 27 Dominion Virginia Power employees.

The employees arrived at the park at 8 a.m. Nov. 15 with three dock boxes, two kayak racks and a bench and picnic table. After installing the new items, the employees also constructed a six-foot fence to contain the park’s new Volunteer Community/Educational Garden – dubbed the Giving Garden – which will be planted in spring 2013.

In total, the employees donated $2,500 in materials and more than 360 hours of work.

The Giving Garden is intended to bring community groups together to help plant and harvest a vegetable garden that will yield produce for charitable organizations to distribute. The garden will also serve as an educational tool to teach about crop rotation, the processes of maintaining soil fertility and the different seasonal crops that can be grown in Tidewater.

“I would like to thank Kim Lowers and her excellent team from Dominion Virginia Power for all of their hard work on this project,” said Michael VanAudenhove, manager of Waller Mill Park, in a press release. “Their effort and attention to detail are apparent in all that they produced and will help to serve the park for years to come.”

Neighborhood Council to Meet

The Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg will host its regular monthly meeting at 8 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Quarterpath Recreation Center.

The council’s meetings are open to the public. At least one member of City Council attends each meeting.
