The Virginia Department of Health recommended the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail test more staff and inmates for COVID-19.
Now, 15 inmates and 8 personnel have tested positive for the virus.
“We continue to emphasize precautions such as frequent hand washing and cleaning, as well as the mandate for wearing masks,” according to VPRJ’s news release. “VPRJ remains in regular contact with VDH and the Peninsula Health District, as well as our on-site medical staff.”
VPRJ had tested all its inmates and staff on Dec. 22.
On Dec. 30, VPRJ conducted an “estimated 275 tests” for individuals who previously tested negative for the virus on Dec. 22, according to a Monday’s news release.

Those who tested positive have completed quarantine per VDH and CDC guidelines.
“Any further testing will be done at the recommendation of and in consultation with our state and local health partners,” according to VPRJ’s news release.
