Expect traffic in James City County during this weekend’s triathlon

Those driving in James City County this weekend will have to take some detours to get around.

With the Jamestown Olympic Triathlon and Jamestown Sprint Triathlon coming to the area Saturday, hundreds of athletes will be covering near the area and creating traffic in the morning.

The Jamestown Triathlon, hosted by Kinetic Multisports every June at Jamestown Beach Event Park, has been designated to host the USA Triathlon Mideast Olympic-Distance Regional Championship this year.

From approximately 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., drivers should prepare for delays at the following locations:

  • Jamestown Road near the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry
  • Greensprings Road
  • 4H Club Road
  • John Tyler Highway, including the intersection of the highway and Greensprings Road
  • Intersection of Monticello Avenue and John Tyler Highway

There will be police around impact areas to direct traffic during the race. Drivers should use extra caution when driving around the area because bicyclists will be out on the roadways throughout the race.
