O’Connor Brewing claims four medals in national craft beer competition

O’Connor Brewing Co. brought back four medals after their trip to the 2017 Alltech Commonwealth Cup in Kentucky, showing that they can brew with the best

NORFOLK — O’Connor Brewing Company again proved that they can brew with best at the Alltech Commonwealth Craft Beer Cup, snagging four medals on Saturday.

Among the sea of competition, the Norfolk-based brewery shined with several beers that gained recognition at the professional craft beer competition in Lexington, Ky.

For the second year in a row, the brewery’s Ibrik Imperial Turkish Coffee Stout aged in bourbon barrels secured a gold medal. The brewery’s R&R Lager and Ibrik Imperial Turkish Coffee Stout aged in maple syrup barrels were awarded a silver.

One of the brewery’s latest concoctions, the La Preciosa Hibiscus Saison, earned a bronze medal as well which owner and president Kevin O’Connor said was a proud moment.

“With R&R Lager and La Preciosa Hibiscus Saison being newly-released beers, it’s extremely exciting to have this kind of acknowledgment from Alltech’s panel of judges,” he said in a press release. “Ibrik has been a juggernaut beer for us since the very first batch, and we couldn’t be prouder that two of its barrel-aged variants have received a gold and a silver at the Commonwealth Cup.”
