A man wanted for his role in a murder sought refuge in a Norfolk cubby hole on Tuesday, U.S. Marshals said.
Police said that Karl Howard, 29, was wanted in connection to a Philadelphia murder that occurred last September. Last week, U.S. Marshals were told that Howard was in the Hampton Roads area.
On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Marshals, accompanied by the Norfolk Fugitive Unit, responded to a home in the 200 block of Maycox Avenue. Police said they suspected Howard had been living at the home. When police knocked on the front door, a door in the back of the house opened and police saw Howard in the doorway. Police said Howard then shut the door.
Police cleared the home of all other occupants, but Howard refused to leave the home. A Norfolk canine unit was then used to find Howard, who was hiding in a cubbyhole above a closet bedroom. Police said Howard attempted to use a fake name when questioned by officers.
Howard is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail before being returned to Philadelphia, police said.
