Photo Gallery: The Emerald City Comes to Williamsburg for Wicked Advanced Screening Event

WILLIAMSBURG — Movie Tavern in Williamsburg was transformed into the Emerald City on Nov. 20 when a lucky few locals got the opportunity to see “Wicked” prior to its release in theaters.

“Wicked” tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles are highlighted through their opposing personalities and a rivalry over the same boy. The show serves as a prequel to Dorothy’s arrival in Oz.

Guests at the event sipped on ‘Ozmopolitans’ and many were dressed in pink and green. Whether members of Team Elphaba or Team Glinda, moviegoers were excited to see the show.

Yorktown’s own Tiffany Haas, who played Glinda in the Broadway production of the show, made an appearance at the event, complete with her Glinda crown. Also attending the event was Donna Vivino, who played Elphaba in the Broadway production alongside Haas.

“Wicked has had an amazing 21-year life on Broadway, and for 10 of those years, I was in the show. Of course, now the film comes out, which gets all of us so excited because it just prolongs the life of it. There has been a New York City premiere, a Los Angeles premiere, an Australian premiere, a London premiere, and now a Colonial Williamsburg premiere,” Haas said.

The event was hosted by Three Cabanas and Three Sisters, two shops owned by Kelly Terracina. Terracina and Three Cabanas store manager Kimberly Kay had seen the excitement surrounding the film and approached Haas about being involved in a special event relating to the premiere of the film.

Haas and Vivino shared stories of their time in the Broadway show and even treated guests to a short rendition of “For Good,” a song that will debut when Wicked Part Two premieres in November 2025.

“There are so many people that are here from all different parts of my life, from dearest dearest longtime family friends, dance friends, pageant friends, boutique friends, and I’m so grateful to Kim and Kelly (owner and manager of Three Cabanas/Three Sisters), for launching such a wonderful event and for making me feel so special in my own hometown,” she added.

The film is now in theaters nationwide. For information on showtimes and tickets, visit fandango.com.
