Yorktown Beach Hotel Honors Longtime Employee with Retirement Celebration
YORKTOWN — Yorktown Beach Hotel recently hosted a surprise retirement party celebrating longtime housekeeper Gill McCauley, 82, who had been employed with the hotel since 1981.
Colleagues, friends, and family gathered on Nov. 11 to recognize her contribution by presenting her with a commemorative plaque that will hang on the second floor in her honor.
Gill’s dedication throughout her 43-year career at the hotel was especially vital during the transition of ownership, according to Matt Bowry, who bought the business in 2021.
“Her wealth of experience and knowledge during the ownership transition was invaluable. That’s her lasting legacy — imparting the wisdom we needed to ensure the hotel’s continued success.”
Noting Gill routinely cleaned 12 rooms per day — above the team average of eight — Bowry added “Her infectious smile and energy inspired others to push beyond their limits.”
According to the hotel, Gill leaves behind a legacy that will be felt by the entire hotel team and guests alike.
“We wish her the best in her next chapter, and we hope she won’t be a stranger,” Bowry said.
