NEWPORT NEWS — Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines has received his first honor of the new season. Hines was named the Player of the Week Monday by the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference.
Hines, from Norfolk, Va., led the Captains to a pair of victories over Greensboro College and North Carolina Wesleyan University in the Roger Taylor Invitational at NCWU in Rocky Mount. He scored 44 total points, including 31 against the Battling Bishops on Sunday, and also pulled down 15 rebounds in the two wins, including nine vs. NCWU.
Hines was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts. In the first game of the weekend, he scored 13 points and hauled in a team-high six rebounds while adding a team-high five assists. Then, against the host Battling Bishops, Hines registered his third career 30-point performance with 31 on 11-of-17 shooting (.647) from the field. He buried a pair of three-pointers and went 7-for-10 from the free-throw line while adding 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the game.
With the remarkable performances over the weekend, Hines moved into the top ten all-time in scoring at CNU with 1,553 career points. The weekly conference honor is the 13th won by Hines over his illustrious career.
Christopher Newport will travel to Virginia Beach on Wednesday to take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan University. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
