Newport News Man Arrested in South Carolina for Yorktown Shooting

YORKTOWN — A Newport News man was arrested in South Carolina Thursday for a fatal shooting Oct. 30 in Yorktown.

According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, on Oct. 30, just before midnight, deputies responded to the 200 block of Barham Boulevard for a report of multiple gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, deputies found 19-year-old Elysiah Lee-Jordan had been shot twice and died as a result of the gunshot wounds.

Sheriff’s Office Investigators began gathering evidence and talking with witnesses, officials said, and as a result of those investigations, On Nov. 7, 26-year-old Jafay Jabarre Moore of Newport News was arrested in Sumter, South Carolina.

Jafay Jabarre Moore was charged with the following:

  • Murder — Felony
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony — Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon — Felony
  • Reckless Handling of a Firearm — Felony

The suspect is currently being held in the Sumter County Detention Facility.
