WILLIAMSBURG — Calling all Ozians … “Wicked” — the movie — is debuting nationwide Nov. 22 and Three Cabanas, Three Sisters, and Tiffany Haas have teamed up to bring the film to Williamsburg two days early at a special VIP screening on Nov. 20.
Haas, who starred in the Broadway production of “Wicked” as Glinda, loved performing in the stage version of the show. Originally from Yorktown, Haas auditioned for shows at an early age. The chance to star in “Wicked” came after auditioning for the show seven times. Originally an understudy for the role of Nessarose, Haas made her Glinda debut in September of 2011.
“The excitement around the film is unbelievable and it’s a testament to how affected people are by this show and the story. It’s just so incredible to sit back and think that this show doesn’t stop, it continues to grow and blossom and continues to affect people in all different ways,” Haas said.
Three Cabanas and Three Sisters, owned by Kelly Terracina and managed by Kimberly Kay, approached Haas about doing a special “Wicked”-themed event. Terracina and Haas ultimately decided on a screening of the film, with lots of special surprises included.
The screening and party will be hosted at Movie Tavern of Williamsburg on Nov. 20. Guests will be treated to “ozmopolitans” and Elphaba and Glinda-themed food items. Haas will perform a few songs from the Broadway show and will welcome guests with a special pre-movie toast. Guests will then get the opportunity to watch the film alongside Haas.
“We want this to be a fun night out. There is no assigned seating, it’s just a fun chance to get to see a movie and experience it with other people who are just as excited,” Terracina said.
According to IMDB.com, the movie tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles are highlighted through their opposing personalities and a rivalry over the same boy. The show serves as a prequel to Dorothy’s arrival in Oz.
The highly anticipated film will star Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and will be released in two parts. Part two is due to be released in 2025.
Limited tickets remain for the film screening and are available through Eventbrite for $20.
