NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University sophomore running back Jordin Lennon was honored Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Lennon, who transferred to CNU this year from Norfolk State University, was selected the Offensive Player of the Week in the league.
Saturday at TowneBank Stadium in a 45-7 victory over William Paterson University, Lennon scored two touchdowns and rushed for a team-high 174 yards. He ran the ball a total of 16 times for an average of 10.9 yards per carry.
Lennon, originally from Yorktown and a graduate of York High School, started the scoring with a 46-yard sprint to the end zone in the first quarter. He later ended the scoring with a three-yard burst across the goal line. He has now scored three times this season, and is now averaging 6.7 yards per carry this season.
For the first time since 2013, and for just the fifth time in program history, the Captains had two rushers finish a game with over 100 yards. Lennon was joined by junior Gunner White, who posted exactly 100 yards on 15 carries and also scored three times.
The Captains are now riding a three-game winning streak and have a record of 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC. CNU travels to New Jersey this weekend for its final road game of the season at Montclair State University. Game time Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sprague Field in Montclair, N.J.
