No. 10/12 W&M Football’s Winning Streak Snapped at Towson, 34-27

TOWSON, Md. — The No. 10/12 William & Mary football team’s three-game winning streak was snapped with a 34-27 setback at Towson on Saturday evening.

The contest was tied 13-13 at halftime, but Towson (2-3, 1-2) capitalized off a pair of Tribe (4-2, 1-1) turnovers en route to scoring 21 unanswered points during the third quarter to build a 34-13 lead.
W&M narrowed the margin to 34-27 with a pair of touchdowns, coming on a 6-yard strike from Hollis Mathis to Darius Wilson early in the fourth quarter and a 1-yard run by Malachi Imoh with 2:05 remaining, but Towson sealed the conference win with two first downs on the game’s final possession.
Although Towson led 13-3 late in the second quarter, W&M scored 10 points in the final 0:36 to knot the game at halftime. Bronson Yoder provided the first touchdown with a 4-yard run, while Eric Bernstein connected on his second field goal of the half with a 24-yard kick as the clock expired. The field goal was set up after Jalen Jones intercepted Towson quarterback Sean Brown near midfield and returned it to the Tigers’ 35-yard line with just 0:09 remaining in the half.
Tribe Standouts
Yoder’s three-game streak of 100-yard rushing performances was snapped, but the senior running back led the Tribe with 84 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Imoh also provided significant production on the ground and rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries with a score.
Wilson threw of 209 yards, while Mathis posted three receptions for 72 yards to go with his touchdown pass. Wideout DreSean Kendrick also came up big with four catches for 59 yards.
Linebacker Quinn Osborne totaled a team-high seven tackles with 0.5 TFL, while linebacker Alex Washington finished with six stops and 0.5 TFL. Linebacker Jonathan Hammond posted a sack and four tackles.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outgained Towson, 412-388, and threw for a season-high 244 yards through the air but was unable to overcome three turnovers – all of which led to touchdowns by the Tigers.
The Tribe held Towson to just 4-of-11 on third downs, but the Tigers scored on all four of its trips into the Red Zone.
The Opposition
Brown completed 17-of-24 passes for 185 yards with two touchdowns, while Tyrell Greene Jr. rushed for 133 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown.
John Dunmore hauled in three catches for 52 yards with two touchdowns, while Zay Perkins finished with five receptions for 68 yards to lead the Tigers’ receiving corps.
Defensively, Will Middleton posted eight tackles with a sack, while Branson Peters returned a fumble recovery 70 yards for a touchdown during the third quarter.
