VIRGINIA BEACH — Sentara will hold its annual Drive-Thru Flu Event on Saturday, Oct. 12, offering free flu shots at 13 locations across Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina, including Sentara Geddy Outpatient Center in Williamsburg.
The drive-thru clinic is open from 8 a.m. until noon.
An appointment is not necessary and shots will be given on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Only the standard dose vaccine will be offered, Sentara said.
Sentara notes it takes two weeks for the vaccine to reach maximum protection, and cautions residents not to wait until the peak of flu season to get their shot.
Public Health experts have not recommended one type of flu vaccine more highly than another for people 65 and older, and advise getting any type of flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against the flu.
