WILLIAMSBURG — This weekend, The Virginia Beer Company (VBC) will once again be releasing The House Blend, a collaboration beer brewed for Hospice House of Williamsburg.
Hospice House, a Williamsburg-based nonprofit social-model hospice offering care, comfort, and compassion through and beyond end of life, will receive $4 from every 4-pack sold.
This is the second year that the brewery has released The House Blend, a Coffee Brown Ale brewed with coffee roasted at Ironclad Coffee Roasters out of Richmond.
In addition, it’s the fifth year that the brewery has teamed up with Hospice House to bring attention to their services and raise money for the organization.
“We’re proud to continue growing our partnership with Hospice House,” says VBC Taproom Team member Courtenay Motley. “Hospice House operates almost exclusively off donations, so we wanted to do our part to contribute to their support services. We look forward to celebrating all they do to care for those in our community who need it most.”
According to VBC, the label is an homage to the facility itself, a home to care for those at the end of their life and the ones they love most.
In keeping with its tradition of community-focused collaborations to support Hospice House, The Virginia Beer Company will be hosting two fundraisers for the local nonprofit.
The House Blend can release party at VBC on Saturday, Sept. 28, will feature the 2024 recipe released on tap and in 4-packs, tabling by Hospice House staff and supporters from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., pairings provided by Dominion Dogs, and a free concert by Richmond- based Triple Crossing Jazz Project from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 6, the VBC team will come together for “VBC & Friends,” continuing the 5-year tradition of local musicians teaming up to donate their time and tips to Hospice House. The free concert will be headlined by local musician Jon Smith and other members of the VBC team and family, with sound support by DJ Kudlz.
In addition to the donation from sales of 4-packs, on Oct. 6, VBC will also donate $1 from every pint of The House Blend poured. Food will be provided by Old City BBQ.
“The brewery’s motto — Beer · People · Purpose — is something we take very seriously, and one of the best things about working at VBC is having the opportunity to host events in support of wonderful local organizations like Hospice House,” comments Jon Smith. “We felt that our annual ‘VBC & Friends’ show would bring the perfect positive vibe to help promote and celebrate Hospice House.”
The timing of these events leads up to Hospice House’s grand reopening. Brandon Randall, Executive Director of Hospice House, recently announced that its facility, located at 4445 Powhatan Parkway in Williamsburg, will be reopening on Monday, Oct. 14 after a lengthy process of renovations and expansions.
