NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University received its first weekly football honor on Monday from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Freshman cornerback Terrence Lamb was selected the Defensive Rookie of the Week by the league.

The Captains opened the 2024 season Saturday in Angola, Indiana, with a 42-6 triumph over Trine University. Lamb, a 6-4 corner from Churchland High School in Portsmouth, opened his CNU career by making three tackles in CNU’s convincing victory.

Christopher Newport will now take on the eighth-ranked team in the nation this Saturday at TowneBank Stadium. The Captains host the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University in a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. Johns Hopkins is also 1-0 after opening the new season with a come-from-behind 27-23 win at Ithaca College on Saturday.

Reserved tickets for Saturday’s game are sold out, and a limited number of standing-room-only tickets will go on sale at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at TowneBank Stadium. The standing-room-only tickets will be sold for five dollars.

Saturday’s game will be a part of Family Weekend activities on the Christopher Newport campus.
