Weekend Sporting Events Impact Multiple James City County Parks and Roadways

JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Patriots Olympic and Patriots Sprint Triathlons take place this weekend and James City County is cautioning motorists they may encounter delays on county roadways.

The county said motorists may encounter delays on the following roadways:

  • Jamestown Road
  • Greensprings Road
  • Route 5 (John Tyler Highway)

Motorists are asked to use caution, follow traffic signs and watch for pedestrians and event participants.

Several county parks and trails will also be impacted by the event, it said. The cycling, running and swimming events will be held at Jamestown Beach Event Park, along Greensprings Interpretive Trail, Powhatan Creek Trail and the Virginia Capital Trail from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The beachfront park, trails and off-leash dog area will remain open to the public during the event; however, beach visitors and trail users should expect heavy swimming, cycling and running traffic, and the county asks park-goers to be alert for race participants passing.
