YORK COUNTY — Crews are scheduled to begin work on Yorktown’s Dockmaster building project this week, York County Public Affairs announced.
Crews will begin by installing a chain link fence around the existing building and adjacent bathroom facilities, the county said. Public restroom facilities remain open near the Freight Shed and the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace.
The York County Board of Supervisors approved the $1.8 million contract at its Aug. 6 meeting.
The two current buildings, located on Water Street, will be demolished to make way for a 1,874-square-foot public-approved single-story building that will provide space to assist waterfront staff and also house the handicapped accessible restrooms, family changing rooms, and space where visitors can receive information and pick up brochures.
As part of the project, plans are underway to install a live webcam so that progress can be viewed online.
