JAMES CITY COUNTY — One person has died and two people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on Old Stage Road Tuesday evening in James City County.

According to officials, the James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Fieldstone Parkway at approximately 8:21 p.m. on Aug. 20. Emergency personnel found a heavily damaged black Honda Odyssey and a white Ford F-250 pickup truck in the intersection median. The occupants of both vehicles required immediate medical attention.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 44-year-old Melissa Delano of Suffolk, was found unresponsive. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene by James City County Medics, according to the report. A passenger in the Honda was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford was treated and released at the scene, while a passenger in the truck was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

A preliminary investigation determined that the Honda was traveling south on Fieldstone Parkway and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Old Stage Road when it was struck by the Ford, which was traveling westbound on Old Stage Road, officials said.

Alcohol impairment and speeding are not believed to be factors in the crash.

One westbound lane of Old Stage Road was closed for one hour, while the eastbound lanes remained closed for approximately four hours as personnel processed the scene, according to officials.

The crash remains under investigation.
