State Police Investigating Saturday’s Fatal Crash on the Coleman Bridge

GLOUCESTER COUNTY — Virginia State Police said it is investigating the two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday, June 22, at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge.

According to police, a 2019 GMC Sierra towing a trailer was traveling southbound on Route 17 and had pulled over to the right shoulder due to a mechanical issue. At approximately 7:54 a.m., a 2018 Kia Forte, also traveling southbound, struck the trailer.

A passenger, 44-year-old Jose O. Salinas Estrada of Hayes, who had gotten out of the Sierra, was pinned in between the vehicle and the trailer and died at the scene. The driver was not injured.

The 20-year-old driver of the Forte suffered minor injuries.

Police said charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
