Colonial Downs Holding Online Contest to Find the ‘Voice of Virginia’

NEW KENT COUNTY — As race season quickly approaches, Colonial Downs Racetrack is hosting an online competition to find Virginia’s most talented singers and performers, and one lucky winner will win a $1,000 prize and have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem during the track’s signature Festival of Racing on Aug. 10.

According to Colonial Downs, the contest is open to singers of all ages, and audition videos are currently being accepted online.

“We celebrate Virginia’s horse industry and culture every day at Colonial Downs, and this is a fun and exciting opportunity for us to celebrate and promote Virginia talent in a different way,” said Colonial Downs General Manager Dan Cuic. “Do you have what it takes to shine as The Voice of Virginia?”

To enter, applicants should submit an online video of themselves singing the National Anthem by Wednesday, June 26.

Colonial Downs will pick the top contenders, it said, and then voting on the Colonial Downs Facebook page will narrow the field to the top four singers by July 8.

Finalists will have an in-person sing-off at Colonial Downs, and a final round of Facebook voting will decide the winner, according to Colonial Downs.

To enter the contest and read the official rules, visit the Rosie’s Colonial Downs website and follow the contest on Facebook.

Following a historic 2023 season that saw record attendance, race days, horses in competition, and wagering, Colonial Downs will begin its 2024 thoroughbred racing season on Thursday, July 11, with races every Thursday, Friday and Saturday concluding with the annual Virginia Derby on Saturday, Sept. 7.

General admission and guest parking at Colonial Downs is free every day.
