No Injuries in Lafayette Square Apartment Complex Fire

JAMES CITY COUNTY — No injuries were reported in a fire at the Lafayette Square Apartment complex Monday afternoon in James City County.

According to officials, at 2:14 p.m. on May 13, the James City County Fire Department responded to the 140 block of Dehaven Court in the Lafayette Square Apartment complex to a report of a fire in an apartment.

Crews arrived to find smoke and fire coming from one apartment and smoke in a second apartment, officials said.

The department said all residents had evacuated prior to its arrival and there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, officials said.. The fire also caused smoke damage to the apartment above.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents of both damaged apartments and the cause remains under investigation, the department said.

Williamsburg Fire Department and York County Fire and Life Safety responded to assist, officials said.
