HAMPTON ROADS — April 23 is designated as the day to Give Local 757! — a day of giving fueled by the power of social media and community collaboration as an initiative of the Peninsula Community Foundation.
The Peninsula Community Foundation’s stated goal is to work with its community partners to identify areas where new strengths can be built and greater civic engagement is encouraged — philanthropy is one of these areas.
The Give Local 757 initiative is a program created to spark and grow local philanthropy through its annual 24-hour giving day which is held each year in the spring, according to the foundation, and the event has united the Hampton Roads community by raising funds for the organizations that strengthen the Hampton Roads region.
Any organizations that are verified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits that are headquartered or provide services in Hampton Roads are eligible to participate.
Donations can be made through the Give Local 757 online portal to charitable nonprofit organizations and are tax-deductible.
According to the foundation, since its inception, the giving day has generated over $10.8 million and connected thousands of news donors to hundreds of the region’s local nonprofits.
